Spatial Quality w/ Lighting
I am slowly falling in love with the charm of lighting in our spaces.
I was reading this article from archdaily and it inspired me to introduce the art of lighting with you guys..haha..
The article briefly explains the influence of lighting and its common limitations regarding design and technicality. It goes on to explain a Vibia’s creative efforts to provide various solutions to those limitations.
It’s a short and pretty informative article for people like me, I hope you also enjoy!! muahahaha.
I think that it was one of the most overlooked parts of spatial curation for me. Initially, I only considered lighting with its pure function of lighting a space and its physical function in decorativeness. I never really thought about how lighting can influence the “spatial quality” until my boss from my last job in Korea introduced the idea to me. She introduced some of the major lighting brands to me and I remember her telling me that lighting would be the most essential and dramatic factor of a curated space. I am honestly not yet very mesmerized by the physical designs of lightings but I now do understand the factors that lightings contribute into a space that makes it so special. If you actually think about it, you can work with the length, angle, intensity, color, and shape of a lighting to make the most well-fit aura of light for your space. I don’t know how much of these are actually calculated in the field to make “moods” happen. I would expect that they are calculated based on the lighting designer/director’s senses. But theoretically, you can manipulate the smallest parts of lighting and design it to your needs/wants. I believe there is a reason why we have lighting directors for movies !! Lighting has a tremendous influence on how we perceive different settings and can create distinct ambience.
I hope you guys enjoyed this short read !!! BYEBYE
