German Romanticism
I am definitely on a spree.
But I am really really really fucking excited to share these with you guys!!!! The main topic of today’s post is the first reading assignment I did for German Romanticism class I am taking with Linn this quarter.
Also listen to this while you read (thank you Jack), I thought it was a very cool vizeo.
“Lucinde” by Friedrich Schlegel
Some quotes that I loved, and I know you will too because you are secretly a romanticist.
Julius to Lucinde
“But in the holy solitude around me everything was light and color, and a fresh warm breath of life and love touched me, and stirred and murmured in all the branches of the luxuriant grove.”
“What I dreamed of wasn’t just a kiss or the embrace of your arms”
“I didn’t yearn only for your lips or your eyes or your body. It was, rather, a romantic confusion of all these things, a wonderful mixture of the most various memories and yearnings.”
“Suddenly your real presence and the gleam of blooming happiness on your face inflamed my lonely self.”
“I didn’t simply enjoy but felt and enjoyed the enjoyment itself.”
“… I stood by the window and did nothing, and that now I am sitting here and doing something, a something which is perhaps only a little more, or even a little less than doing nothing.”
“I want to attempt to shape raw chance and mold it to the purpose.”
A Dithyrambic Fantasy on the Loveliest Situation in the World
“The farthest reaches of unbridled lust and silent intimation exist simultaneously in me.”
“Wild blood rages in my swollen arteries, my mouth thirsts for union, and my imagination, alternately choosing and rejecting among the many forms of joy”
“And then I think suddenly and movingly again of that dark time when I was always waiting without hope, when I loved intensely without knowing it, when my inmost being was completely filled with an indeterminate yearning that was only seldom expressed in half-suppressed sighs.”
“I can no longer say my love or your love: both are identical and perfectly united”
“if you feel something, then you should want to tell it too, and what you want to tell, you should also be allowed to write.”
A Character Sketch of Little Wilhelmine
“Unquestionably there lies deeply rooted in the nature of man a desire to eat everything he loves and put every new object he encounters immediately into his mouth in order to break it down, if possible, into its primal constituents. A healthy hunger for knowledge makes him want to apprehend the object completely, to penetrate and bite through its inmost center.” (my fav)
Allegory of Impudence
“divine voluptuousness”
“A libertine may know how to undress a girl with a kind of good taste. But only love teaches the youth the higher art of voluptuousness by which alone masculine strength is transformed into beauty.”
“A girl in her naive ignorance already knows everything, even before the lightning bolt of love has struck into her gentle womb and before the closed bud has opened into the full flower of sensuality.” LOL.
“I don’t merely love it, I worship it; because I worship humanity, and because the flower is the apex of the plants, the apex of its natural beauty and form.”
Fidelity and Playfulness
“Why is your heart beating so? Come, let me kiss it.”
“Because it really is something stupid if two people of opposite sexes try to form a relationship which they imagine to be one of pure friendship.”
“it’s not uncommon for her to marry half a dozen men one after the other, spiritually or physically.”
“It would be really boorish to speak with a charming girl as if she were some sexless amphibian.” LOLOL
That’s it !!!! I really hope you guys enjoyed the quotes as much as I did. I had tons of giggles while reading lol. If you guys are interested in reading the text, I can send a pdf version. Text me three of your favorite quotes and I will send. muahahaha have a sexy nights you guys.
